Talk Show Host Suspended for Insulting Tom Brady’s Daughter
As the super bowl fast approaches, Tom Brady, the quarterback for the New England Patriots, decided to produce a video on social media called “Tom Vs Time.” The video allows you to be a part of Brady’s life beyond football. On Thursday, January 25, Alex Reimer, columnist and sports talk host on Radio Station WEEI, made what I consider a derogatory comment about Tom Brady’s daughter Vivian, a comment which I will respectfully not repeat here. As a result, Reimer was suspended from the radio station indefinitely.
I agree with WEEI’s decision to suspend Reimer for two reasons. First, WEEI, which I affectionately call Jerry Springer Radio, has gone over the edge these past few months. Most often when I tune in, I hear hosts trash talk each other, gossip about the personal lives of coworkers, talk about masturbation, and more often than not, veered away from traditional sports talk. This suspension should serve as a wake-up call to WEEI, despite what they claim the station’s ratings are. If the ratings are as good as these hosts claim, then I wonder where everyone is that likes the trash talk. Second, Tom Brady renewed his contract with WEEI several days before Reimer made his comment, allowing Brady to continue his weekly interviews during the football season. When Brady was contacted by WEEI for his next interview after Reimer’s comment was made, he publicly expressed his opinion during the interview and abruptly ended it. I don’t blame Tom Brady. What if it was your 5-year-old child? Kids are kids, and they say and do things the way most kids do. You wouldn’t want anyone referring to your child in the way that Vivian Brady was
Despite what I just said, there are those who put all of the blame on Tom Brady. How dare he post a video about his private life while he prepares for the super bowl? Being that he exposed his private life, Brady’s actions, along with his family’s, are open to public comment. Other people, especially those who dislike the Patriots, regard Reimer’s comment as a distraction to Brady which could affect the Patriots” performance in the super bowl. To begin with, Brady and the rest of the Patriots spent the last 16 years overcoming many distractions, including spy gate, deflate gate, and a player who turned out to be a murderer. Alex Reimer’s comment about Vivian should be no different in that Tom Brady and the rest of the Patriots will rise above it and do what they need to do to win the super bowl. Doesn’t anyone realize by now that the Patriots are not easily distracted by the media, Patriot haters, and anyone else looking to create drama? It doesn’t happen. The Patriots have a lengthy dynasty because they have the pieces to make it possible, a great quarterback and a coach who manages rosters better than any other coach in football.
Go, Patriots!
